StrongBox utilizes LTO tape for cost-effective, ultra-scalable storage.
What is LTO?
Linear Tape Open (LTO) is a tape data storage technology that employs open-standards, with no proprietary formatting. The term refers to the tape itself and it goes hand in hand with LTFS. Now in its sixth generation, LTO 6 offers up to 6.25 TB capacity and transfer rates up to 160MB per second. The actual tape cartridges are very inexpensive to purchase. Thus, data can be copied easily to multiple tapes for offsite vaulting and additional security. LTO has seen widespread adoption for archiving, backup, and large-volume data storage. StrongBox utilizes LTO generation 5 or LTO generation 6 as its underlying storage medium.
